100th Post and 100 Reasons Cancer SUCKS

We received some terrible news today. The truth is the official news came Monday via MyChart and despite my best efforts to resist Googling and hiding them from my mom she found them. Been a weird few days knowing what we read and trying to pretend all is ok. The results of Mom’s biopsy hit the record and they are what they are, it’s a reoccurrence of Ovarian Cancer. It’s a surprisingly fast reoccurrence too.

We had a call with Dr Sidani and Erica and the plan is to start second line chemo right away. The area where the tumor has presented deep in the lymph node is too risky to surgically remove according to Dr Kurnit and too difficult to target for radiation. Because we are well under six months since her last round of chemo we need to do a different drug regime, Doxil will be ordered today. We will combine Doxil with Zirabev (her immunotherapy medication) and shoot to start this Friday.

When Dr Kurnit performed surgery in December the tumor was sent for testing. They are going to see if it’s possible to start some additional targeted treatments that were recently approved. They will do some additional testing on the biopsy sample as well to see if more treatment options open up.

Again, not the news we wanted to hear and certainly not the 100th post I wanted to write and share. The boxing gloves are back on for round two.

PS – This photo was taken Sunday. I took Mom to Fair Oaks Farms for dinner and yesterday we went to Wagners Ribs with Aunt Tina for the Fourth of July. She’s been doing so well, you’d never know she’s got a monster inside of her.
